She inspires others and offers hope to children, young people and adults, empowering them to overcome real-life challenges and lead a fulfilling life. All her inspirational talks can be tailored to your audience, the required message and/or the desired outcome.

Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE)

In every classroom in the UK, at least 3 students are victims of sexual abuse, and many more may have experienced different forms of physical and emotional abuse and bullying.

Having seen first-hand the devastating effect that CSAE (Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation) can have on an individual for the rest of their lives, Chris accepted the role as a member of the VSCP (Victims and Survivors Consultative Panel) to the Government’s Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, IICSA in July 2015.

Her lived experiences and professional work, with and outside of the Inquiry, has reinforced her understanding that traumatised children, young people and adults can struggle to engage fully with all services & institutions; in school, the community and in the workplace.

Chris can help individuals, organisations or educational settings who are experiencing working with people suffering the devastating effects of CSAE (Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation) to become more trauma informed.

Vicarious trauma refers to the emotional, psychological, and physical impact experienced by individuals who are repeatedly exposed to the trauma or distress of others.

Chris was impacted by primary trauma within her family environment, she also experienced vicarious trauma — carrying the emotional weight and guilt of not being able to protect her siblings from harm. Later in life, she faced burnout in the workplace, the result of navigating past trauma while managing unhealthy dynamics and bullying.

These experiences give Chris a deep, lived understanding of how trauma — both personal and vicarious — can manifest in every area of life, including the workplace. It’s why she’s so passionate about helping others recognise, prevent, and recover from the effects of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout.

In educational, organisational, or workplace settings, you and your team may experience different emotional responses when working with, or supporting, individuals affected by trauma — or even through toxic environments such as bullying, harassment, or sustained pressure.

Think of it this way:

Vicarious Trauma = your perspective changes

Also known as secondary trauma, this is the deep internal shift in worldview and sense of safety that occurs after repeated exposure to others’ trauma. Those affected often develop symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Compassion Fatigue = your empathy drains

Emotional exhaustion and reduced capacity to empathise, that comes from caring intensely for others in distress, can cause compassion fatigue.

Burnout = your energy collapses

Chronic stress, frustration, and depletion, caused by overwhelming workload, organisational pressures, or workplace conflict, can cause burnout. This is not necessarily from direct trauma exposure.

It’s important to recognise that anyone in the workplace can experience vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, or burnout — not just those in traditional “helping professions.”

Workplace bullying, discrimination, or high-pressure cultures can all trigger similar trauma responses, impacting mental health, job performance, and overall wellbeing. Through her lived experience and professional expertise, Chris helps individuals, organisations, and educational settings to:

• Recognise early signs of trauma-related stress •
• Develop practical self-care and team-care strategies •
• Build trauma-informed and compassionate cultures •
• Strengthen resilience and wellbeing across the workforce •
Because when we understand trauma and its ripple effects — we can truly begin to heal, grow and thrive.
